For the past couple of days since my race Sunday I have had 'that feeling'. If you have ever finished a race, be it a cyclocross, triathlon, run, granfondo, or any type of challenge, you know 'that feeling'. It's the one were you have a permasmile for days afterwards, and you quietly boast with pride knowing that you did something really cool....and if you happened to have accomplished a pb (personal best) as well, well then that elation could also boost your confidence; another bonus!
My training, or rather my return to training, after several 'Life' hiccups....what with my shattering break up with my life partner earlier in the year, my God Father & Grammy's passing in the spring and summer, and a couple of very serious health issues that copped up as well this past summer, training wasn't just a preferred activity this fall; it was a necessity. As a result of all those tragedies I had ended up gaining over 30 pounds and was the heaviest I have ever been in my life, not pregnant. It was like I literally was carrying around a tire around my mid section. My body really didn't feel like mine, or at least the body that I am familiar with, at all.
So when I set out to jump start my training it was a real push, and actually for the first time ever in my life, a physical difficulty. I wasn't just able to jump back in with a ride here, and a swim there. Nope it was going to take a heck of a lot more structure, perseverance, and consistency if I wanted to reach my goal. Short term goals, as well as long term goals had to be made. One of those long term goals was to get a podium this fall in Citizen Class for Cyclocross ...and not just any podium (because last year I got podium simply for being one of three ladies that bothered to show up for the race...which is still nice, but...) but because I earned it.
I may not have gotten poduim this past weekend, but I was still very pleased with my performance.,,,,and it took till today for me to realize that I had reached one goal that I hadn't thought of; "My endurance had improved"
...So, now I have been sporting a silly little grin for days!
Yay me!
...and there is still one more race for Cyclocross here on the Westcoast, and for me which is December 1st. I plan to 'BRING IT'.....and I hope I have someone that "shows up" to beat..because it isn't a race if you are the only one in it..and it isn't as much fun if you have no-one to beat! :{
